In partnership with Emeritus, MIT xPRO will be offering the Professional Certificate in Technical Project Management program. This 21-week program comprises three courses:
- Course 1: Project Management Fundamentals

The program will focus on building and refining your skills towards career acquisition in the management of technical projects. You will learn to:
- Identify the foundational principles of teamwork and performance in technical projects
- Facilitate increased performance across a variety of project standards, methods, concepts, and architectures—including agile, stage-gate, waterfall, flow, spiral, and set-based
- Evaluate charters, create plans, establish teams, support ongoing progress, handle changes and risks, and promote—and manage adaptation to—a high-performance culture
- Understand the agile approach to project management and execution
- Employ advanced project management methods for planning, control, and adaptation
- Lead teams and design projects for high performance
The program will be well suited for early- to mid-career learners, specifically:
- Early-career tech and tech-adjacent professionals just launching their careers who want to gain practical skills to break into the high-demand technical project management field
- Mid-level project managers who want to build on their existing skills and formalize their training in technical project management
- Early-career engineers seeking to add technical project management to their skillset
- Experienced engineers seeking to change their career track for opportunities as a technical project manager
Through this program’s courses, you will gain a thorough understanding of the five stages of a project life cycle, exposure to a variety of project management methodologies—including agile scrum—and insights into new ways to drive efficiencies. Recent graduates and those with just a few years in a tech-focused professional role will learn the tools and methodologies critical to technical project management. Engineers will gain the skills and effective frameworks necessary to lead a project team.
Each of this program’s courses will demand approximately 15-20 hours of effort per week for prepared learners, for a total of 315-420 hours of work effort across the full program. We plan to offer the course several times per year. The cost of the course will be $7,450 USD.
