MIT xPRO's Rapid Prototyping Methodologies for Commercial Application is a course that aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of rapid prototyping technology and its applications. The course is designed for product managers, designers, business leaders, functional heads, and product engineers involved in product development.
The course highlights the value of rapid prototyping, offering potential benefits such as a reduction in the design-to-production timeline and cost savings for prototypes. Participants will learn rapid prototyping fundamentals, various techniques for developing prototypes, and how rapid prototyping can increase agility in design and manufacturing. They will also gain the ability to map desired product attributes to concept prototype attributes, analyze fabrication processes, make informed fabrication decisions, assess data from concept prototypes, optimize the cost value of a rapid prototype, and explore future trends and technologies in rapid prototyping.
The program features a hands-on learning experience, including a capstone project where participants will apply their learnings in prototype development. They will also have access to case studies, assignments, interactive activities, discussions, polls, and quizzes.
The course curriculum is organized into eight modules. Participants will start by learning about the rapid prototyping landscape and its benefits. They will then delve into topics such as concept prototype attribute mapping, common rapid prototyping technologies, traditional fabrication processes, smart design and fabrication decisions, designing concept prototypes, assessing the cost and value of rapid prototyping, parallel fabrication, and the future of manufacturing.
Throughout the course, participants will explore the development of MIT's Project Manus face shield, gaining insights from Professor Martin Culpepper and his team. They will also have the opportunity to engage in live faculty sessions and weekly office hours with learning facilitators.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to make efficient design and fabrication decisions, refine product concepts, and optimize resource allocation through rapid prototyping methodologies.
MIT xPRO’s Rapid Prototyping Methodologies for Commercial Application costs $2600.
