Discovering and Implementing Your Leadership Strengths is a 3-week course that will guide you through the process of building a personalized roadmap to develop, deepen, and broaden your leadership capability and confidence.
This course teaches you how to utilize critical self-reflection to discover & develop your unique leadership strengths. It will provide you the opportunity to optimize your leadership style and skills, and to see your leadership in context by providing peer insights into how others view your leadership strengths.
The course is well-suited for professionals and entrepreneurs in business, industry, government, and other organizations at all levels who want to realize and develop their strengths and more effectively and efficiently lead and function within teams and organizations to perform to their highest potential.
The coursework features video lectures, real-world case studies, and interactive projects, with a focus on peer-review as an application of the course skills. Assessments include numerous practice activities—with immediate feedback—and learning scenarios, followed by self-reflection and discussion with peers and course TAs.
Learners will discover and analyze their personality traits, values, capabilities, motivations, and self-identity through a variety of standard assessments, self-reflection, and external feedback. You will produce a defined Leadership Vision for yourself and determine how you will implement them.
In the first week, you will start building leadership self-awareness by understanding your main five personality traits and their relationship with leadership via the IPIP-NEO assessment. You will analyze how your personality traits influence your leadership style via self-reflections.
In week two, you will continue exploring your leadership style and strengths via triangulation of qualitative and quantitative information received from both self-reported assessments and external feedback from close personal contacts. You will learn to analyze and synthesize this feedback on your strengths from people who know you well to create a tool you can share with others in the future that will help them understand how you operate best.
In the third week of the course, you will reflect on the self-understanding of your personality and strengths, and learn techniques and skills to define and implement your leadership vision—Future Leadership Contributions written from a Growth Mindset perspective. You will choose one technique you have learned to define your future leadership and write a visioning exercise to imagine and invent your future as a leader.
This course will empower you as a leader, as a change agent—wherever you sit in your organization—with the knowledge of self and clarity of vision necessary to become a successful leader for yourself, your team, and your organization.
