The Understanding Organization Strategy and Capabilities course covers several key concepts that will enable learners to develop a strategic perspective on leading change and effectively apply these concepts in their work. By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
-
Identify and evaluate organizational strategy: Learners will learn how to analyze and evaluate their organization's strategy using tools such as SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats). This will enable them to align their ideas, products, and efforts with the overall strategic direction of the organization.
-
Prioritize value creation: Learners will understand the importance of prioritizing products and initiatives that create value for the end user. They will learn how to identify where, how, and for whom products create value, and how to ensure that their work aligns with value creation.
-
Dynamic Work Design: The course introduces the concept of Dynamic Work Design, a framework developed by MIT, which helps teams effectively organize and conceptualize their work. Learners will learn how to decompose product systems into individual tasks, relationships, and entities to develop new processes and improve work efficiency.
-
Capability and implementing change: The notion of capability will be explored as an analytical framework for evaluating organizational strategy. Learners will understand why organizations often struggle with implementing change, adopting new tools, processes, and strategies, and how to leverage the Dual Process model of cognition to implement successful work design strategies.
-
Visual Work Management: Learners will learn how to design knowledge work effectively by utilizing Visual Work Management. They will explore the four principles of Dynamic Work Design in the context of real-world case studies and understand how visual management can enhance productivity and communication within teams.
By mastering these key concepts, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to align their work with organizational strategy, prioritize value creation, design effective processes, implement change, and utilize visual management techniques. These concepts provide a solid foundation for leaders and professionals to enhance their strategic thinking and drive organizational success.
